Academy’s first foray into the Medallion Shield yields an impressive 50- 14 win.Bangor Academy’s first ever appearance in the Medallion Shield saw them facing Antrim Grammar School.

From the moment the Bangor players left the changing rooms it was clear to see that the newcomers were intent on making a statement in this opening round of the competition. Within a couple of minutes the Academy’s number 8, Nathan had scored - his carrying from the back of the scrum was unstoppable. This set the scene for the rest of the game with a further two tries from Nathan and the rest from Matty, Kirk, Ryan and Kailen. Ryan expertly converted most of the tries, demonstrating that his flair on the  football pitch could easily translate in front of the posts.

Bangor Academy rugby coach, Davy Coey said:

“All the boys’ hard work is starting to pay off with some excellent play from the full squad. It would be impossible to select a man of the match as everyone played to the best of their abilities. From a coach’s perspective may I say how proud I am of the boys’ performance but I would also like to comment on their impeccable sportsmanship.”

These sentiments were echoed by, Academy Principal, Matthew Pitts at the end of the match. He said:

“Such a decisive victory is a tremendous boost to our rugby confidence as we make our first foray into the Medallion Shield. Congratulations everyone.”
