Farewell

E-mail Print

FarewellWith over 85 years’ contribution to school we are sorry to say goodbye to four long-serving members of our teaching staff.

John Pollock is planning to relax in retirement and devote more time to cycling and his model railway obsession. His 36 year contribution to the Technology Department, not to mention lighting at every school play  or concert, will not be forgotten.

Joanne Vennard is off to pastures new as she takes up a post in Laurel Hill Community College. The History Department will miss her talent, especially in her passion for A-Level Politics and the fun she brought. None of us will forget her rendition of Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ at the end of term talent show – she certainly went out on a high note!

Leonard Kirk is retiring having contributed to both the Maths and ICT Departments for a sum (see what we did there!) of 16 years. Hopefully Leonard takes many happy memories away from school and adds to his retirement by spending more time with his grandchildren and getting stuck in to property renovation.

Finally, Louise Hanvey is leaving the Senior Leadership Team  following 16 years at the Academy to become Principal of Ashfield Girls’ High School, Belfast. Louise’s  calm and unflappable approach to leadership and organisation is second to none. She won’t miss the bright yellow jacket she had to don so often as she trained us up to ever faster school evacuation times during fire drill.

We must also acknowledge the talent and time given to school from: Kathryn Jemphrey who is leaving the H.E. Department; Classroom Assistant, Laurie Gaffney who is setting up her own jewellery business; Sixth Form Supervisor, Cindy Lowry,  Jemma McCaughan who is leaving the Art Department, Samara Willis in French and Rachel Waugh in Science.

Best wishes to all our leavers.
