QUB poetry competition success for Year 9 Francophiles.Congratulations to Christy and Evan whose poems on ‘New Beginnings’ impressed the judges in the QUB NICILT European Day of Languages poetry competition.

Christy’s poem came first in the ‘Spirit of European Languages Day’ category and Evan achieved a very satisfactory second place for ‘Most Creative’ category. Commenting on their entries, Ms Louisa Gibson,

NICILT Manager said: ‘To write a poem in another language raises the bar.  I believe your pupils rose to the occasion and really engaged with our competition theme, ‘New Beginnings’.

Your pupils showed creativity and their own interpretation of the theme.  There was a wide variety of interpretations too and I know that your pupils made the effort to look up new words in a dictionary and tried hard to express themselves using constructions that perhaps they had not learnt before in class.  This has shown me that they can work independently and creatively and can think outside the box.  Well done!’
